Fishing streamers is always exciting. Over the long haul, streamers will bring out the biggest, baddest trout in the river. You may not catch many, but the ones you do will be memorable. The Zonkers series of streamers have many attributes that work together to produce results. The Oil Slick (named by a famous Montana fishing guide) adds a few tricks to put it at the top of my list for Zonkers. The thin, fish profile body in the flashy black color, the touch of orange at the throat, the beady little eye balls and the wiggly, wavy, sexy barred variant back all work together to make this a real trout meal. Be sure to tie this tight and use plenty of glue - it's going to be chewed on a lot. I have included a photo of the Copper Zonker below. Not quite as exotic, it's a classic combination that sets right next to the Oil Slick in my streamer box. Notice the Zonker in the vise photo is setting upside down, the hook is buried in the Rabbit strip. The Copper Zonker shown below is in the fishing position - hook point riding up and ready to bite back. |
