Blue Ribbon Flies is back again. I don't know all the details, but the Iris Caddis seems to stand out as one of the real killers when Caddis flies are dancing on the river, and this Amber style stands at the front of the line. I have tried this pattern with Tan and Olive bodies - similar to more common Caddis colors and while they still work, the Amber really turns them on. Another interesting wrinkle is the Tiemco 102Y hook. I can't tell a #15 from a #14 from 10 feet away - or 1 foot for that matter, but I want to remain faithful to the original recipe so there you go! Everyone should stock up on Straight or Wrinkled Zelon (for shucks, wings and things) and I have grown fond of their Zelon dubbing - very shaggy, sparkly and sexy (if you are an insect). You know where to go - Blue Ribbon Flies.com - to hear it from the horse's mouth. |
