Standard Rod Configurations and Actions: |
6'3" - 4 Weight - 2 Piece Approx. 3 1/4 Oz. |
A very light rod based on the classic Paul Young Midge rod. Medium progressive action ideally suited for lighter dry flies and small nymphs. Still fairly powerful for it's size, this rod is capable of handling 30' - 40' casts with little difficulty. |
7'0" - 3/4 Weight - 2 Piece Approx. 3 1/4 Oz. |
Another very light rod based on a Dickerson 7012 taper. I would consider the action of this rod to be a classic soft, progressive action best suited for light dry fly fishing in smaller streams. |
7'0" - 4 Weight - 2 Piece Approx. 3 1/2 Oz. |
A light but powerful rod based on a Wayne Cattanach taper. Very comfortable with a DT 4 line, this is one of the fastest action rods I make. In spite of it's size, this little rod will cast up to 60' and is a delight with smaller dry flies and nymphs. |
7'0" - 4 Weight - 3 Piece Approx. 3 5/8 Oz. |
The 3 piece version of the rod listed above - slightly heavier but able to pack in a 29" tube. |
7'6" - 3/4 Weight - 2 Piece Approx. 3 5/8 Oz. |
A recent derivative of the parabolic rod described below only now in a lighter 3 or 4 weight configuration. Still very smooth yet able to move plenty of line when you need to make that soft presentation. |
7'6" - 4/5 Weight - 2 Piece Approx. 3 3/4 Oz. |
Based on another Wayne Cattanach taper, this is the sleeper of the bunch - my most popular rod. This is a parabolic action rod that is the smoothest casting rod you will find. Comfortable with 20' to 60' casts, the rod gently continues to work towards the grip as the length of line increases. Not too slow - not too fast - just right! |
7'6" - 5 Weight - 2 Piece Approx. 4 1/4 Oz. |
A nice, tight, fast rod based on one of the heavier Dickerson 7613 tapers. I would call this a fast progressive action that will cast a DT 5 line up to 50' with most dry flies, medium nymphs and light streamers. This is a rod that most folks feel comfortable casting right away! |
7'6" - 5 Weight - 3 Piece Approx. 4 3/8 Oz. |
Once again a derivative of the rod described above. Not quite as fast but still a pretty quick, powerful rod in a 31" tube. |
8'0" - 5 Weight - 2 Piece Approx. 4 1/2 Oz. |
This rod is based on the Dickerson 8013 taper which is a classic progressive action. This rod will easily cast up to 60' with most dry flies, nymphs and light streamers. Somewhat similar to the rod above, the extra 6" helps with line control and is closer to a medium, progressive action. |
8'0" - 5 Weight - 3 Piece Approx. 4 5/8 Oz. |
The 3 piece version of the rod listed above. A versatile rod for most trout fishing situations. |
8'0" - 6 Weight - 2 Piece Approx. 5 1/4 Oz. |
The strongest rod I routinely make, based on the Dickerson 8014 taper which I consider to be a strong progressive action. This rod will cast up to 70' with just about any kind of dry fly as well as most heavy nymphs and streamers. This is my Montana rod! |
8'0" - 6 Weight - 3 Piece Approx. 5 3/8 Oz. |
Very similar to the rod described above only slightly deeper flex, just a bit heavier and able to pack in a 34" tube. |
Note: The casting distances listed above are based on my feeble efforts - feel free to adjust all of these estimates one way or another! If you are interested in something different - let's talk. There are hundreds of classic tapers available and I am continually building additional new rods (as time allows) |
