North Branch Series Rod Details

a

The North Branch of the AuSable River in Northern Michigan begins above Lovells and flows south until it joins the Mainstream a little west of Brack Hill Road.  The North Branch is a wonderful stream that is very secluded, meandering through mostly private property with somewhat limited access.  After the East Branch, the North is the smallest component of the AuSable system in depth and flow, but also the clearest and coolest with very little development along the banks and plenty of cooling shade & cover overhead.  This setting contributes to an opportunity for a quiet day (or evening) on a gentle stream that abounds with excellent insect life - as well as willing trout.  A few of the stretches have been dubbed "Nursery Sections" due to the huge population of Brook trout.  A great place to introduce a newcomer to fly fishing.  The North Branch series of Brack Hill Tackle bamboo fly rods is intended to be a great way to introduce a newcomer to Split Bamboo.  The rod package is comprised of a single tip - two piece rod with simpler yet completely functional fittings attached to the same high gloss bamboo blank made for all Brack Hill fly rods.  See some of these details further down this page.

All running guides are "Snake Brand" chrome and stripping guides are classic Mildrum Carballoy finished with fine silk wraps.  This rod is finished with Dark Olive wraps that have been treated with shellac to gently retain the raw silk color.

Reel seats are anodized aluminum cap and ring with a mortised hardwood filler.  The filler shown is walnut - other woods are available on request.

Another view of a completed 8' - 5 weight North Branch rod showing the Aluminum Reel seat with Walnut filler, a 6 1/2" Western profile grip and the BHT signature wraps in Dark Olive and Black above the grip.  The 5 gaps in the wraps indicate a 5 weight rod!
