Steelhead Alley - October 2010

Déjà Vu all over again - Holy Crap what a place!  We did do a little cross country work to get away from the crowds & find more remote settings and managed to catch a few every day. You heard it before, not the most scenic wilderness experience, but if you enjoy hooking a lot of angry fish then here you go (again) . . .

Tuesday Morning on 16 Mile Creek -

Kinda like last year, an early brown trout comes out of the dark hole.  They sure like eggs!

We were all happy to see the Steelhead were also in the river - especially this hog.

Now we're having fun - the business end of a fresh Great Lakes Steelie.

I hope you're not getting bored - lot's more fish porn is coming your way.

Maybe the best of the day - Mike hangs on to a real beast late in the evening.

Wednesday on 20 Mile Creek and the Falls on 16 Mile -

A pretty look down the river - working a pool in the crisp fall sunshine.

Johnny working the Upper Pool.

Mike hooks up on the Lower Pool on 16 Mile.

This guy made it all the way to the Lower Pool - he might be still in there after dragging Mike around for 5 minutes or so!

Rick takes a turn with a nice 20 Mile Buck.

My kind of fishing - sitting on my ass with a Dr. Pepper close by!

Thursday - Elk Creek and a little sightseeing.

I took a little break for a short road trip over to the Conneaut Creek across the state line into Ohio.  Pretty spot, not too many fish in the Creek.

Back to work on Elk Creek - a little ways down from Legion Park.  We walked a ways to get away from the crowd and tracked down a nice pool full of friendly Steelhead.

I'm sure this turned out to be a great photo!

One last shot at "The Tubes" on Elk Creek - plenty of big fish, but couldn't convince any to take a bite!

Friday Morning, the big finish back on 16 Mile -

This is why they call them "Chromers"!

I'm running out of prose - how about "Pair of Browns, Pair of Bucks"

Seemed like time to share one of the many "Secret Flies" that were working - pretty fancy stuff, eh?

We saved the best for last - Johnny had a bit of a tough week, but this monster still brought a smile.  It's hard to believe this little guy stayed alive with all those huge Browns and Steelhead lurking - he gets good points for attitude to jump on that Prince Nymph!
