Montana - September 2010
| Just got back into town
after a 2 week visit to West Yellowstone. We all had a great time
- 7 Michigan anglers eager to explore Autumn opportunities in Montana.
We never got a chance to experience the "Fall" weather that brings
blanket hatches of bugs, hungry trout chasing big streamers and the Fall
spawners surging up into the Madison, but we did manage to trick a few
in the bright Montana sunshine. |

|
| Let's start out with a gnarly Madison river rainbow - It must be the fancy Ann Arbor Trout Unlimited Cap! | |

Another AATU Cap. Mike tricks a feisty little Firehole rainbow by swinging soft hackles under the hot springs. What a place! |

| Later that evening on the Firehole - Picture Perfect! | |
|
Richie conquers Pork Chop Island - seemed like a good idea at the time! |

Time for a different cap. The official Filson fowl weather gear must be responsible for firing up this Madison River Brown Trout. |

| Richie showing a real pretty West Slope Cutthroat out of the Gallatin River. | |

|
| Mike with a Yellowstone Cutthroat right out of the Yellowstone River - looks like a beetle eater! | |
|
John Z. performing an unusual act with a prize specimen of the Montana Bonefish. Maybe not the most elegant - they sure put a bend in your rod in between the Rainbows. |

Dan made it out for a short visit, the burden of still being gainfully employed. He seems to be having fun in spite of a minor issue - see the photo below. |
|
A rather painful way to display the Psycho Prince that Dan was using to fool all those Madison river trout. The fly was almost painlessly extracted by our capable guide and continued to serve Danny well for the rest of the float. |

No, we were not standing 6 feet apart when we doubled up, but it did not take much to set up this classic photo on the Yellowstone River below Gardiner. |
|
The result of the epic battle shown above - 2 fine Cutthroats on Baetis dry flies! |

| This will bring a smile to your face. One fine Brown trout, tricked by a special streamer - the Blue Belly! | |

|
| Excuse me - someone else interested in a sandwich at the Mammoth Hot Springs restaurant! | |

| Spey Testing. Geoff gives the BHT 12' Bamboo Spey a workout - looking pretty good so far! | |

| A parting memory. Launching the drift boats on the Yellowstone River - September 28, 88 degrees! | |
