Montana Mayfly Tour - April 2009
| What a way to start the
2009 season - Montana Style! The story is, "This is what spring
used to be like in the good old days". Well we bundled up with as
much fleece as we could find and gave it our best shot - we may not have
hooked as many, but it seemed like the trout we did find were pretty
thick and healthy. So here you go - fun in the snow! |
|
Your humble Rod-Maker having a little fun on the Ruby River. Midges and Baetis kept hatching pretty much all day long which meant dry flies and Trout eating on top - can't beat that action. |

No - this is not the Blue Ribbon Flies pit crew with a 12 second tire change at the Beaverhead 500. We all agreed that it was more like Cam playing with his nuts. |

Did you notice that it actually stopped snowing. A brief respite between snowstorms on the Beaverhead. Once again, a little cool and the bite was a little slow, but as you can see, the Trout that did come out and play were well worth the trip! |

Nicely bent fly rod on the McCoy Cattle Company Spring Creek. Dan hangs on while Geoff offers advice and encouragement. |
|
| And the battle ends with a quick photo op - it actually looks like a smile in there. |

| Richie gets dressed - it appears as though he is now wearing everything he packed in that famous "Black Hole" duffel bag. His able guide carefully adjusts his hoodie for comfort. How nice! |

| Hot Elk chili in the McCoy Cattle Company lunch tent. Cam's gas fired "Slow Cooker" and the fully stoked wood stove in the corner provide a welcome respite from the mini-blizzard taking place. |

| Brook
Trout - Montana style. Plenty of these guys were working midges on
Kansas Lake in the the McCoy Cattle Company. A nice place to get
out of the weather for a bit and try some stillwater action for a change
of pace. |

Dan grabs another Rainbow on the lake. He doesn't seem to be smiling as much now - maybe his cheeks are frozen. |
|
Al's turn with a fattie from the creek. |
